We are here to inform you about the importance of providing consent for your child to use additional Google services as part of their educational experience.

​

Recently, Google has updated its education permissions, and consent is now required for any student to use the services listed below while in school or using their school account.

Why is consent important?

​Without your consent, students will not be able to participate fully in all class learning activities and assignments, causing them to miss out on valuable learning opportunities.

Educational Benefits of Google Services:

​

  • Google Classroom: Facilitates paperless assignment creation, distribution, and grading, and enhances communication between teachers and students.

  • Google Earth: Allows students to explore the world from their classroom, visiting historical landmarks and geographical features.

  • Google Maps: Helps students learn about geography, plan routes, and understand spatial relationships.

  • Google Translate: Supports language learning and breaks down language barriers, fostering a more inclusive environment.

  • YouTube: Provides a vast array of educational videos that enhance learning through visual and auditory experiences.

 

We believe that these tools are essential for providing a comprehensive and modern education. By giving your consent, you are enabling your child to take full advantage of these resources and participate fully in all classroom activities.

G Suite for Education: Additional Services

Parent/Guardian Consent for Use of Additional Services for Students

Wa He Lut Indian School (WHLIS) requires consent from parents/guardians (or eligible students) to provide students with access to Google’s G Suite Additional Services as part of their individual student accounts. Please complete this form and return it to WHLIS. Consent remains valid for the entire time the student is enrolled in WHLIS and may be rescinded at any time.


If you do not return the form, we will assume your child is NOT permitted to use the Additional Services. 


WHLIS is committed to leveraging technology in ways that ensure all students have access and opportunity to communicate, collaborate, create, and innovate safely and responsibility anywhere, anytime in support of learning. A central resource for actualizing this work is the use of G Suite for Education, a set of online productivity tools that help students and teachers to interact for teaching and learning. G Suite for Education provides students with access to a host of tools and services such as e-mail, online storage, and web-based communication and collaboration applications. WHLIS views these Core Services as critical educational tools to promote academic success for all students. 


WHLIS takes its responsibility for protecting the confidentiality and security of student information very seriously. WHLIS has contracted with Google to provide access to G Suite for Education to students in a closed and secure environment that is not accessible to anyone outside of WHLIS. Google is obligated to comply with all federal and state laws regarding student data privacy and security including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In addition to the aforementioned Core Services, G Suite for Education offers supplemental tools, or Additional Services, which require parent/guardian consent in order to log in and use the services. In these Additional Services, Google may show non-targeted ads to your child and may use collected information to provide, maintain, and develop new Additional Services.   • Google Earth: Explore satellite imagery and 3D buildings. 

  • Google Maps: Get directions and real-time traffic updates. 

  • Google Classroom: Manage and distribute assignments online. 

  • Google Translate: Translate text and documents between languages. 

  • YouTube: Watch and share videos on various topics. 


Failure to provide consent for these Additional Services will not result in loss of access to the Core Services. 

PARENT/GUARDIAN CONSENT

Choose the appropriate option for your student(s):
YES—The student named below is permitted to use their WHLIS account to log into the Additional Services. I understand that personally identified information about the student will be collected and used in order to provide the services.
NO—The student named below is not permitted to use their WHLIS account to log into the Additional Services. I understand that the student will have access to some of the services anonymously and in a very limited capacity.
